Galway, a short history

Galway (Gaillimh), or the City of Galway, takes its name from the river Gaillimh (Corrib) that formed the western boundary of the earliest known settlement. Part of the province of Connacht, it lies on the River Corrib between Lough Corrib and Galway Bay and is the fourth most populous city in the State.
